Binance APP Biometric Authentication Setup
Adding biometric authentication to the Binance APP provides an extra security layer beyond your password. Register for Binance and download the APP to set up these features. Visit our security center for more.
Why Set Up Biometric Authentication?
If someone borrows your phone, finds it unlocked, or your phone is stolen -- without APP-level biometric lock, anyone can open Binance and access your assets. Biometric authentication prevents unauthorized access even when your phone is unlocked.
iPhone Face ID Setup
Prerequisites: iPhone X or later, Face ID configured in system settings.
- Open Binance APP -> Profile -> Security
- Find "App Lock" or similar option
- Enable "Face ID"
- Verify with Face ID to confirm
- Done -- Face ID required to open APP
Lock timing options: Immediately / 1 minute / 5 minutes / 15 minutes after backgrounding. "Immediately" is recommended.
Android Fingerprint Setup
- Open Binance APP -> Profile -> Security
- Find "App Lock"
- Enable "Fingerprint Unlock"
- Verify your fingerprint
- Done
Android Face Recognition
Some Android phones support face recognition. Note: most Android face recognition (2D) is less secure than iPhone Face ID (3D). Prefer fingerprint if both are available.
PIN Code Backup
Set a 4-6 digit PIN as a backup when biometrics fail (wet fingers, masks, etc.).
- Security settings -> PIN Lock
- Enter a 4-6 digit code
- Confirm the code
- Avoid simple combinations (000000, 123456) or birthday numbers
Security Verification Levels
| Action | Verification |
|---|---|
| Open APP | Biometric/PIN |
| View assets | None (APP unlocked) |
| Convert/Trade | May need 2FA |
| Withdraw | Password + 2FA + email/SMS |
| Change security | Password + 2FA |
Face ID in KYC Verification
Separate from APP unlock, Face ID technology is also used during KYC:
- Upload ID document photo
- Perform live facial recognition (blink, turn head, etc.)
- System matches your face to your document
- This is a one-time process, not daily
KYC face recognition tips: Good lighting, no hats/glasses, face camera directly, follow instructions precisely.
FAQ
Which is more secure: Face ID or fingerprint? iPhone Face ID is slightly more secure (1-in-1,000,000 false match rate vs. 1-in-50,000 for fingerprint). Both are excellent for daily use.
What if biometrics keep failing? Clean the sensor, try re-enrolling, or use the PIN backup.
Does setting up APP lock affect trading speed? Minimally. Use the 1-minute lock delay for convenience while maintaining security.
Summary
Setting up biometric authentication takes minutes but provides long-term protection. Enable Face ID or fingerprint as your first line of defense, backed by a PIN code. For KYC, ensure good lighting and follow instructions precisely.
