Fee Types in Futures Trading
Binance futures have two main fee types:
1. Trading Fee
Charged when you open or close a position.
| Level | Maker | Taker |
|---|---|---|
| Regular | 0.02% | 0.05% |
| VIP1 | 0.016% | 0.04% |
| VIP2 | 0.014% | 0.035% |
Maker vs. Taker: Limit orders that add liquidity are Maker (lower fee). Market orders that take liquidity are Taker (higher fee).
2. Funding Rate
A periodic fee exchanged between long and short traders, settled every 8 hours. When the funding rate is positive, longs pay shorts. When negative, shorts pay longs. This mechanism keeps the contract price aligned with spot price.
Fee Calculation Examples
Trading Fee Example
Position size: 10,000 USDT, Taker fee: 0.05%
- Fee = 10,000 x 0.05% = 5 USDT (per open or close)
Funding Fee Example
Position: 10,000 USDT, Funding rate: 0.01%
- Funding = 10,000 x 0.01% = 1 USDT (every 8 hours)
Note: Fee is based on position size (including leverage), not margin amount.

FAQ
Are futures fees higher than spot fees?
No, actually lower. Futures base rate (0.02%/0.05%) is lower than spot (0.1%/0.1%).
Does leverage affect the fee?
Yes. Fees are calculated on the full position size. With 10x leverage on 100 USDT margin, the fee is based on the 1,000 USDT position.
How do I check funding rates?
On the futures trading page, the current funding rate and next settlement time are displayed at the top.
Can funding rates be negative?
Yes. Negative rates mean short positions pay long positions. This happens when the market is bearish.
